The Best of Sicily

Day 1 : Catania – Siracusa

Overnight in a 3* hotel

Included meals: None

Day Itinerary

Upon your arrival at Catania’s airport, you will go and pick up your rental car and start your journey to Siracusa. Depending on your arrival time, we can organise a guided visit of this beautiful and timeless city recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the past, Siracusa was considered the largest ancient city in the world, bigger even than Corinth or Athens. You can still admire the ruins of this then new-city in the Parco Archeologico della Neapolis, one of Sicily’s greatest archeological sites. Across the water from the mainland, you will find Ortygia, the other historical heart of Siracusa. This is the ideal place to enjoy wandering around after a busy day discovering the other part of Siracusa.

Day 2 : Siracusa – Necropolis of Pantalica or Noto – Ragusa

Overnight in a 3* hotel

Included meals: Breakfast

Day Itinerary

Not far from Siracusa, you will reach the Necropolis of Pantalica. Located on a cliff overlooking the gorges of the river Anapo, this area host around 5000 tombs carved into the rock. As well as being rich in history, this site is also a valuable natural oasis and represent a unique opportunity for canyoning fans.

In case of bad weather, we would recommend to get to the South of Sicily and visit the city of Noto and its famous cathedral. One of the most beautiful examples of baroque art in Italy. Noto has been designated by UNESCO among the “eight cities of Late Baroque”, representative of the golden age of Baroque art in Europe. Amongst those eight cities classified by UNESCO, we also find Ragusa, ultimate goal of our day. Baroque Churches and palaces follow one and another in the narrow streets of this medieval town. An unforgettable evening walk!

Day 3 : Ragusa – Piazza Armerina – Agrigento

Overnight in a 3* hotel

Included meals: Breakfast

Day Itinerary

Today you will drive to Piazza Armerina where you will be able to visit the famous Villa Romana del Casale. Home to some of the best preserved examples of Romans mosaics, this Villa is worth a visit. Built in the 4th Century AD as a hunting lodge, the Villa is divided in four main sections: the main entrance with its thermal baths, a peristyle with the living area, the private rooms of the owner and a dining area with its beautiful courtyard. If you happen to be there in mid August, you must visit the “Palio dei Normanni”. This event is a knight competition which records the heroic battle between the Norman invaders and the Arabs in 1060.

In the afternoon, you will continue to Agrigento and The Valley of the Temples. This superb archaeological site consists of eight temples and varions other remains which were built about 510 BC and 430 BC. Lovers of horticulture will also find their happiness in this visit with the Garden of Kolymbethra. Its five hectares offer a wonderful variety of flora including myrtle, ancient varieties of lemon, mandarin and olive trees.

Then head to Marsala, well-known for its salines and even more for its wine… If you wish you can also cross over to the island of Mozia. Its an unusual and pleasant place to wander. Possible extensions

Egadi Islands, wild and authentic

Starting from our charming Bed and Breakfast in Trapani, you will leave for the day to Levanzo Island, an island without roads where you have to walk to the wild and beautiful coves, ideal for swimming away from the crowds. Or Favignana, the most popular for Sicilians, even Marettimo, the most distant but the wildest and most intimate island.

Aeolian islands, the big thrill

You can either take a ferry boat to the islands from Palermo (in the summer time) or drive to Milazzo and then embark for Vulcano island, this volcano covered with sulfur.
